Early detection is crucial in treating cervical cancer. However, when left untreated or undiagnosed, the disease can progress to advanced stages. In this article, we will discuss the symptoms and signs of advanced cervical cancer.

Pelvic Pain and Discomfort

One of the most common symptoms of advanced cervical cancer is pelvic pain and discomfort. As the cancer grows and spreads to nearby tissues and organs, it can cause pain in the pelvic area. This pain can be persistent or intermittent and can be described as dull or sharp. It can also be accompanied by discomfort or pressure in the lower abdomen.

Bleeding and Discharge

Another symptom of advanced cervical cancer is abnormal vaginal bleeding and discharge. This can occur between menstrual periods or after menopause. The bleeding can be heavy, and the discharge can be foul-smelling. In some cases, there may be bleeding after sexual intercourse or a pelvic exam.

Advanced cervical cancer can also cause swelling of the legs. The cancer can block the lymphatic system, leading to the buildup of fluid in the legs. This can cause the legs to become swollen and painful.

Back Pain

As the cancer progresses, it can also cause back pain. This is because the cancer can spread to the lymph nodes or other organs in the pelvis or abdomen, causing pressure on the spine. The pain can be persistent or intermittent and can be described as dull or sharp.
